Trickling Filters

Saluber 04 proposes trickling filters for the treatment of industrial wastewater characterized by particularly high pollutants loads (COD, BOD) yet also for the treatment of urban wastewater; trickling systems are mainly used as roughing filters in the pre-treatment steps in combination with other chemical, physical or biological treatments.

In this type of treatment, bacteria adhere to a support that is constantly wet by the flow of wastewater to be treated, which passes through the trickling bed from the top downwards and which is uniformly distributed on the surface of the trickling filter. The air needed for the aerobic process is ensured by an air current that is generated due to the difference in temperature between the inside of the trickling filter and that of the air. In other cases the ventilation system can be forced and generated by specific ventilation systems.
